San Francisco - At a sold-out event this Thursday evening at San Francisco's Commonwealth Club, Adam Werbach, CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi S, the Sustainability division of global ideas company Saatchi & Saatchi, will receive INFORUM's 21st Century Award for visionary leadership.
Werbach is being recognized for leading businesses, organizations and individuals toward a more current and relevant understanding of sustainability.
Central to tonight's event will be Werbach's much-anticipated, follow-up address to his highly controversial "Is Environmentalism Dead" speech, presented at the Commonwealth Club in 2004. The speech ignited a storm of protest from environmental circles and alienated the former president of the Sierra Club from many of his green colleagues.
Since then, Werbach has sparked further controversy by taking on retail giant Wal-Mart as a client, and most recently, by selling his company, Act Now Productions, to Saatchi & Saatchi.
On Thursday, his theme is The Birth of Blue - the emergence of a post-green, consumer-led movement that aggregates the power of both marketers and consumers as catalysts for social change. He will be introduced by legendary sustainability thinker and author Paul Hawken.
"Blue is bigger than advertising," says Saatchi & Saatchi Worldwide CEO Kevin Roberts. "To be Green is tablestakes in the effort to make our world a better place. To be Blue takes us from obligation to opportunity; from limits, to true possibilities."
