Cape Town - Creative agency Saatchi & Saatchi Cape Town has led pro bono client St Anne’s Homes, a century-old shelter providing support and rehabilitation for pregnant, abused and homeless women in Cape Town, to an off-beat world-first auction.
“Ironically, an Annual Report which reflects the financial standing of an organisation ends up costing the organisation money rather than contributing to its profit,” says Ian Young, Saatchi & Saatchi Cape Town MD. “So in a benevolent twist of irony, we decided to auction off St Anne’s Homes Annual Report, with all the proceeds going to the home.”
The pages from the report were framed and printed on recycled paper and exhibited at the Bell-Roberts Gallery in Cape Town during the organisation’s AGM late last month.
Heading up the auction were heavyweight auction group Julius Buchinsky, with celebrity auctioneer Barry Hilton. In just 40 minutes the group sold all 30 pages, making it the first hard copy of an Annual Report to raise money during an AGM, and giving St Anne’s an opportunity to renovate their second stage home, buy a new TV and refurbish their kitchen.
