London - Last Thursday, a banker broke free of his corporate chains and escaped the City for a life in the creative industries by driving his corner desk, complete with phone and printer, through London's financial district, to the legendary steps of 80 Charlotte Street.
The stunt, staged by Saatchi & Saatchi London, marked the launch of its award-winning Summer Scholarship scheme for 2012, delivering the message that the creative industries are still recruiting new talent in a time when many other sectors are not.
It also serves as a reminder to those people disillusioned with corporate careers like banking that all is not lost and that Saatchi & Saatchi welcomes people looking for a career change as well as those graduating this year.
The Summer Scholarship, which the agency has been running for over ten years, offers a dozen people the opportunity to work at Saatchi & Saatchi over the summer and the chance to be selected to join the agency permanently.
The 2012 Scholarship will follow last year's successful selection process, which Saatchi & Saatchi ran through a Facebook group that attracted over 2,000 candidates. Over the course of 5 months and 5 challenges, applicants were put through their paces in a variety of media, culminating in a live pitch at the Charlotte Street offices. The 12 successful applicants were accepted to the scheme in disciplines across the agency.
