Frankfurt - Karl Bates has been appointed Planning Director, Saatchi & Saatchi Germany and will lead the Agency’s strategic planning team from August 2009.
Bates comes to Frankfurt from Saatchi & Saatchi’s London Agency, where for the past two years he has been responsible for strategic planning on Toyota Europe and Guinness Worldwide as Planning Director.
Bates previously held positions at The Farm and Grey Worldwide in London and .start Advertising in Munich. During this time he worked on clients including Remington, Nokia, smile.co.uk and lastminute.com. Prior to this, Bates founded the agency D-Office, where he was partner and Managing Director, handling clients including Levi’s, Adidas and Swatch.
In the 1990s, Bates worked as a Marketing Consultant for Panasonic and Hitachi in Munich, and for BMW in Auckland New Zealand. He studied Business Administration in Münster and is fluent in German.

Bates' appointment follows former Planning Director Matt Peterson's decision to move on after a decade with the Saatchi network, including seven years as a passionate part of the team in Frankfurt.
